Local Information

The workshop will be held in rooms 202/204 of the Physics building on the Syracuse campus. Here is a map of the SU campus; the Physics building (labeled PHYS) is just northeast of the Carrier Dome. A full set of campus maps is available here.

Getting to Syracuse

The Syracuse Hancock International Airport is located north of the university, roughly a 15-20 minute drive away. Flying to any of the NYC airports is not recommended; they are around 250 miles from Syracuse.

To get from the airport to campus, Uber or Lyft are both available, or contact Syracuse Regional Taxi. Alternatively, several rental car companies are located at the Syracuse airport.

Dining

For food options around the physics building: to the north is Marshall street, along which there are several shops for food (Indian, American, middle-eastern…). To the east down Euclid, then north up Wescott are a few more restaurants (Alto-Cinco and Gangnam Style Korean Kitchen are two good ones), however this is a longer walk ~15-20 min.

An informal workshop dinner will be held on Thursday night at Phoebe’s, within walking distance of the campus.

Campus Safety

  • Orange Alert: Non-Syracuse University students and employees will not be alerted in the event of a campus emergency. A representative from the Sponsoring Department is responsible for alerting Campus Visitors who are not in the campus People Soft System, of any campus emergency which has been reported through Orange Alert. It is recommended that Sponsoring Department obtain cell phone information to text or call non-registered visitors in the event of an emergency.

  • “Blue-Light” Security Boxes: Emergency call stations are readily identified by a blue light which is operational 24-hours per day directly above the call station. By pushing a large red button on the call box, a direct signal is sent to the Communications Center at the Security Department. Audible tones are heard at the blue light station to convey to the caller that an alert has been sent out. Locations (click here)
