Local Information

All talks will be held in the JILA Auditorium on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The auditorium is adjacent to the Duane physics building at 2000 Colorado Ave. Please refer to the map below:

Getting to CU

The city of Boulder is served by Denver International Airport (DIA), which has direct flights from a large number of destinations. From the airport, there are several ways to get in to Boulder:

  • The regional transportation authority, RTD, operates the SkyRide bus service from the airport to Boulder (specifically, you should take the AB1 line.) Buses leave from the transportation hub underneath the main terminal, on the south side near the Westin hotel. There is a machine that dispenses bus tickets, or you can pay as you board with cash. The fare is $9 one-way.

  • If you rent a car, follow the signs to I-70 W, then exit onto I-270 W (becoming US-36 W) and follow the highway into the city. There is also a bypass highway E-470 W, which runs directly to US-36 W; there is a toll on this road.

  • There are a variety of options for airport limousines, shared ride services, etc.; see this list maintained by DIA.

Although the airport has a light rail link now, the train runs into downtown Denver and doesn’t connect up to Boulder yet, so don’t attempt to take the train out - you’ll end up on a bus anyway, and the SkyRide bus is much more direct.

If you bring a car, on-campus parking is somewhat limited; a map of short-term parking lots is available here. The closest lots to the workshop site with short-term paid parking are the Folsom street garage (391) and Euclid parking garage (just west of the JILA building). Enter the Euclid structure from Broadway, since traffic is restricted on 18th St. through the middle of campus. Uncovered short-term parking is also available a short walk away in lot 440. Finally, free parking is available at the 28th St. Mall, from where you can either walk about a mile or take the HOP bus line to the campus.

Accommodations

There is no block reservation at any specific hotel for this workshop. Instead, the university maintains a list of local hotels with preferred rates for University guests (click the “UCB” tab for Boulder hotels); make sure to mention that you are visiting CU and ask for the rate. Some (but not all) hotels near campus are marked on the map above.

Internet access

Wireless internet is available around the CU campus on the “UCB Guest” network; see the instructions here.

Dining

The University Memorial Center (marked on the map above) is the closest option for lunch, and provides several fast-food options as well as a cafeteria.

A workshop dinner will be held on Thursday evening, at the historic Chautauqua Dining Hall in south Boulder. Participants will be asked to pay for their own dinner (i.e. we won’t be collecting money in advance for this.)
