I left Boulder at 9:30 pm on the evening of Friday, June 23, 2006 and arrived at the Handies/Sunshine-Redcloud trailhead at about 4:00 am. I set up my tent and hit the sack, and awoke the next morning early enough to start hiking at about 9:00 in the morning. I summitted Sunshine and Redcloud, and and got back down to the trailhead at 3:45, where I switched out some gear before heading back up to climb Handies Peak. I summited at about 7:00 pm, and got back to the trailhead at nightfall, about 9:00 pm. I slept well, and woke up Sunday morning at about 9:00. I had some breakfast, hung out a bit, and drove back to Lake City for some film and to get up the the Matterhorn Creek trailhead. I started hiking from the battom of the 4WD road at about 11, and got to the summit of Wetterhorn at about 2:30. I then slogged over to Uncompahgre, summitting at about 6:00 pm. I booked it back to the car, and got down again at about 9:00 pm, and drove down the rough part of the road in fast-fading light. I cooked up some instant soup on the side of the road, drank some Gatorade, and headed back home. I reached Boulder at about 4:30 am, 55 hours and 5 14ers after setting off.
